Some people do music as a hobby, some people take it as a job, and some people just live for it. Eduardo De La Calle (Analog Solutions – Spain) has been producing and releasing techno music around Spain and Europe for more than 16 years. A real veteran in the techno music scene, he has lived and worked in numerous cities developing his own projects throughout the years: lots of hours behind decks and in production studios. Eduardo has an enormous potential, his love and passion for music, his production and his DJ sets, deep and full of intensity have earned him a lot of respect.

Inspired by the golden age of Ethiopian jazz in the nineteen-seventies, in 2007 the Swiss trumpet player Raphael Anker got together a band to play, and play with, this extraordinary music. A trip to Addis Ababa to perform with and learn from the locals inspired them to record an album, taking Ethio-jazz as a starting point, but also bringing in influences from rock, jazz, funk and electronic music.

“Tout passe et tout demeure. Mais notre affaire est de passer. De passer en traçant des chemins (…)” Ces mots sont de Machado qui aimait l’amour et le flamenco. Ils ne roulent pas sans échos dans la “Compilation” que vous tenez entre vos mains. On trouve ici des guitares en bois, du chant, des machines où l’on sent la présence humaine, des musiques de traverses, des esquisses, des questions parfois, mais peu de réponses. Les onze musiciens, groupes, duos, individus, rassemblés ici aiment l’air du large, l’inconnu plutôt que les certitudes, l’ailleurs et le voyage, même si ce dernier peut s’inventer dans une simple chambre. Ils ont un autre point commun ces onze. Ils viennent de Genève ou y ont vécu.
Genève où rares sont celles et ceux qui n’affichent qu’une seule origine, une seule langue ou une seule culture. Un esprit commun, un truc impalpable, relie ces onze là. “C’est une compilation d’intérieur, un disque que l’on peut écouter en boucle, de belles musiques enregistrées par de belles personnes et que mes parents aussi pourraient aimer.”

Là ce n’est plus Machado qui parle, mais celui qui a réuni ces onze titres parce que son affaire, c’est de nous passer de la musique et de tracer des chemins. Cette “Compilation” je l’ai écoutée. En boucle. Et je suis bien d’accord avec lui.
